This presentation will provide an overview of the field work conducted by Daniel DeLong, a master’s candidate in Resource and Environmental Management at the University of Dalhousie, and Hannah Gilliam, a Biology major at Acadia University during their summer working on Sable Island. The speakers will provide insight into their assigned work duties while working for Parks Canada’s Sable Island team including, but not limited to, creating a field guide for the dominant vegetative species, conducting bird surveys, engaging with visitors, water monitoring of the pond ecosystems, designing a natural history database for the park, and working with visiting research specialists. The presentation will be complimented by the abundance of pictures captured by both students throughout their stay and will offer insight into the overall experience of living in such an extraordinary, yet remote, research environment.
