Confirmed presentation for Saturday October 21st: “A Sable Island Son: Captain James Augustus Farquhar”
Susan (Farquhar) Demmons’s great-grandfather, Captain James Augustus Farquhar (1842-1930), was a master mariner and captain in the late 19th and early 20th century Nova Scotia. He’s known for his success in sail, steam, sealing and salvage. Capt. Farquhar, whose statue resides at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, lived for many years on Sable Island and recorded his memories in a book called Farquhar’s Luck. At our conference, Susan (pictured) will give us a glimpse into her great-grandfather’s life on Sable Island and share some of the tales he recorded!
