Friends of Sable Island Society is again offering $2,000 in scholarships to Nova Scotia students completing Grade 12 in 2024 and pursuing post-secondary education in the fall. Our scholarship is offered annually to promote learning and awareness of Sable Island National Park Reserve.
Two prizes will be offered: $1,500 for the first place entry and $500 for the runner up.
In 2024, we are asking applicants to report on a significant event in Sable Island’s history. This report can be in the form of a mock newspaper article, video news report or simulated podcast. Written applications should be 800-1,000 words; video or audio content should be 3 – 5 minutes long. The goal is to create an accessible and entertaining piece that immerses the reader in a true event from Sable’s past.
We hope applicants will use our website for ideas, starting with “A Brief History of Sable Island“.
