Scholarship 2026 – Sable Island Through Art

Friends of Sable Island Society is delighted to once again offer up to $2,000 in scholarships. We invite Nova Scotia students completing Grade 12 in 2026 and pursuing post-secondary education in the fall to apply. We have offered an entry-level scholarship since 2013 to educate, inspire, and foster stewardship for Sable Island National Park Reserve, while generating content that can be shared through our website and social media channels to broaden public awareness.

This year’s theme is Sable Island Through Art.  We are offering $1,500 for the first-place entry, with a possible $500 second prize to a deserving runner up entry.

Students are invited to submit an original piece of artwork inspired by Sable Island. The medium is intentionally open to encourage broad participation and creativity. Suggested formats include:

  • Painting or drawing
  • Sculpture or mixed media
  • Textile or fiber art

Alongside the artwork, students are asked to submit a short written artist statement explaining:

  • Their connection to Sable Island
  • What the piece represents
  • Why protecting Sable Island matters to them

Submissions will be judged on originality/creativity, research/accuracy, emotional impact, and interpretation/content.

Interested students can refer to the Application Form for more details. Submissions are due by 11:59pm on April 30, 2026.

All work will remain the property of the applicant. However, the Society reserves the right to publish this content on our website, and potentially in print, with notice to the applicant.
