Friends of Sable Island Society is a charitable volunteer-based organization dedicated to the preservation of Sable Island. We promote awareness and education through our website, annual scholarships, and public events such as the bi-annual “Sable Island Conference”. We believe that the island has an amazing capacity to teach people about our world and we seek ways to provide a variety of learning opportunities.
Position Details:
The Digital Marketing Specialist for Friends of Sable Island Society will plan, design, and create digital content for our website and social media accounts. The primary goal of the content is to educate people on the need to protect SableIsland’s past, present and future.
The Digital Marketing Specialist will be responsible for creating a digital marketing campaign specifically for a set of on-line lesson plans for students from Primary to Grade 12. Other content and activities could include: a set of social media posts to be scheduled throughout the year; short videos/reels using our photo/video gallery; research, design and build a marketing campaign for an educational calendar using our photo gallery; a review of our existing website content to identify gaps and improvement opportunities; and, campaigns for other activities and products such as our self-published book “Sable Island Stories: Volume One”.
The Digital Marketing Specialist will work independently between regular check-ins with a supervisor, a volunteer board member of Friends of Sable Island. Much of the work can be done remotely using regular check-ins with the supervisor.
Position Requirements:
- Creative thinker
- Self-starter who is comfortable taking steps to remove obstacles before seeking assistance
- Ability to work independently
- Well organized and comfortable setting daily and weekly work goals
- Proficiency with the English language (speaking, reading and writing)
- Provide own access to a computer and internet for accessing a shared on-line workspace
- Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) on the work start date
- Student in or graduate of a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations
- Not immediate family of a member of the Board of Directors for Friends of Sable Island
Position Assets:
- Currently studying or a graduate with marketing and/or business strategy
- Knowledge of social media
- Experience using Google services, especially shared Google drives
